Lottery control routines and routines for calculating the winnings, that is what Henry Malmodin has on his screen at work.

Henry works as a system developer at Tumba Bruk. It is his job to write programmes for the lottery business division in general, including the development of a completely new control system for "Triss Tickets" and other scratch ticket lottery types.

At Tumba Bruk, on the outskirts of Stockholm, they print the notes for the Mint, lottery tickets, passports, and other valuable documents. The control mechanisms are an essential part of the lottery business.

Henry got his training as an engineer at Linköping University - a 180 credits degree course leading to an MSc in Computer Science and Engineering.

- I can now see how useful my training was. Whenever I meet a new challenge, I feel that I'm standing on a broad and solid foundation, a good basis from which to develop specialist expertise. I believe a solid education and training to be of particular importance to visually impaired people. Your employer will know then, that you can cope with the job.

- And how do you cope with the job? You can't read the top line at the eye specialist's?

- I have a screen reading programme, which enlarges the text on the screen. And I also have special reading glasses for reading printed text. Those tools make me flexible and stop my disability from restricting me.

In parallel with the new control system under development, the current production system must be maintained. Every operation undertaken in the running of a lottery, entails the use and development of control and safety measures.

- The work requires meticulousness, says Dag Karlsson, head of the department. Each little operation must be relevant, must fit in exactly. We don't just sell a lottery ticket to the customer. We sell safety as well. Nothing must go wrong.

Henry put his C.V. on the Internet. A head-hunter called and told him about the position at Tumba Bruk. Dag Karlsson did not consider Henry's disability when employing him.

- No, I hardly gave it a thought.
